Some March Fun...

Liliana was sick for a lot of March. Blame it on starting school, or the flu season, or the fact that I bragged to too many people that she hadn't really been sick in over a year. Whatever the reason, we spent a lot of March in our house and had to cancel many play dates, a trip to Yuma, Disney dates, swim lessons, work with the babes and more. But, we managed to squeeze in a little fun. Here are a few of the events that I remembered to take pictures of...

Art Soup in Encinitas:
*Grandma sewed Liliana the dress that she is wearing in these pics. Liliana loves getting dresses that Grandma makes her.

Zoomars with Will:
(always) More beach days: we are loving the time change and that we can be in the sun even after Adam gets home from work.
*Grandma sewed this dress and headband also.

Disneyland with the Lambs:
*Another Grandma creation.

"Talk about it" (a Feb/March update)

Funny things come out of kid's mouths. Here are some funny things that have been flying out of Lila's lately:

Liliana overheard me on the phone with a friend saying that Adam was "pretty sick". She started cracking up. When I asked her what was so funny she said, "Daddy can't be pretty sick. He is HANDSOME sick!"

Lately, when we tell her we love her she responds with a dismissive, "mmm-hmm, thanks." She also wipes off our kisses while smirking at us these days. Stinker.

She has no filter and has started to say rude, embarrassing things when we are in public. The other night at a restaurant she pointed to a lady and asked, "is that a man?" I shushed her and told her that it was a woman. "Wow! It really looks like a MAN!" she yelled. She also practically yelled at the nice guy that works at Trader Joe's with a pony tail, "You look like a girly-man with a pony-tail!" He couldn't understand her THANK GOD, but the man behind me in line snickered.
When we were on a flight home from SF last month she yelled, "DAD! DID YOU BURP (that's what she calls toots)? DO YOU NEED TO GO POO-POO? YOU SMELL LIKE POOP!" (For the record, he swears it wasn't him.)
And when I woke up the other morning and gave her a kiss she said, "Eeew! Your breath is stanky! It smells like poop Mom! Brush your teeth!"

My mom sent her some Tinkerbell panties in the mail and she was hugging them. She looked at me, dramatically rolled her eyes and said, "Mom, I am BEE-SESSED with Tinkerbell!"

I found her on the couch the other day with her hands behind her head staring into space. I asked her what she was doing. "Just bee-laxing Mom!"

The other day she said that she wanted a bow back that I took away from her after she had a tantrum over the color. I told her that she could not have it because of her behavior. She glared at me and threatened, "Well, Imma' be naughty to you then Mommy!" Threats?!? Really?!?

Curious:
She has started the 100 questions game that that kids so often do. Ex:
Liliana: Mom what you doing?
Me: making dinner.
L: What for?
M: So we can eat when Daddy gets home.
L: What for?
M: So we can be healthy and go to bed with full tummies.
L: What for?
M: So you can grow big and strong and have energy to play and learn.
L: What for?
...You get the idea. It can go on forever. So, I have started to turn the questioning around back at her by asking, "Why do you think I am doing it Liliana?" It hasn't worked yet. She always responds with, "I don't know! Talk about it Mom!"

Wardrobe:
Getting dressed and ready in the morning is starting to become a little issue. Neither Adam or I (or the grandparents) are surprised. Both Adam and I had trouble with picking out our clothes in the morning. We both battled our parents to the point that Adam's mom had to dress him the night before and he had to sleep in his clothes. I had to pick my outfits out the night before and when that didn't work I had to have a conference with my school teacher who threatened to have my mom bring me to school in my PJ's if I couldn't get it together in the morning. Now, Liliana cries and fights over what to wear. We give in to a certain extent, but I am not one of those moms who can totally let go and let her go out in a crazy outfit that looks totally ridiculous or inappropriate for the weather. The good thing is that she (sort of) understands how to match. She will say, "I need to wear that pink shirt because I have on pink pants. Where are my pink shoes? Did you get me my pink panties yet? I need pink socks to match also," as she frantically digs through her drawers and closet. When I make her wear something else that is not the color she is going for that day she will ask me:
L: is this pink? (even though she has known her colors since she was 15 months and she KNOWS it is not pink)
M: No, it's yellow.
L: NO! IT'S PINK MOM!
M: No, I'm sorry, it's yellow.
L: (in tears) It's a little bit of pink!
M: Ok, fine. We can pretend it's pink.
L: NO!! IT'S REALLY PINK!
M: Ok, fine, it's really pink.
L: *smile*

Little Helper?:
Shopping is becoming more and more interesting with Liliana. She has always loved running errands and grocery shopping. She is becoming more of an active participant by shouting, "OH YEAH! NOW I REMEMBER WE NEED MORE OF THOSE! OH YEAH! WE ALMOST FORGOT! GET ME MORE EGGS!!!" She practically yells her way through the store. And, if I turn away for one second she is reaching towards the shelves to fill our cart.

Defiant:
Thankfully the tantrums are starting to subside, but with every phase there is a new challenge. Lately we have been dealing with defiance. For the past couple years Liliana has been a pretty good listener but now she is definitely pushing the boundaries by telling us, "no! I don't want to!" or running away when we ask her to come to us or even doing something intentionally while we are in the process of telling her not to. So, the time outs and loss of privileges continues at our house...

Tutu Cute

Liliana just finished her 2nd session of ballet. She did much better this session at listening (sometimes) and actually doing what the class is doing (instead of twirling by herself and checking herself out in the mirror). There are many great memories of picking out her outfits before class (of course she always had an opinion--one time after I was done doing her hair she looked at herself in the mirror and asked me seriously, "MOM! WHAT ARE THEY GOING TO SAY WHEN THEY SEE ME IN CLASS?!?). I also loved watching her dance with her friends, get excited about story time, sing along to the songs and actually learn a move or two, and our visits the library next door after class.
